A Prostate Gland Scan in a pelvic ultrasound scan in males is used to view the bladder and prostate. Indications for this are when the patient suffers from obstructive urinary symptoms e.g. delay in starting to pass urine, poor flow and incomplete emptying of the bladder.

It is also indicated in symptoms of urgency where the patient has to rush to the toilet. Ultrasound can detect enlargement of the prostate (benign prostatic hypertrophy) or tumours.

What to expect

Please arrive with a full bladder, therefore we advise you to drink 5 cups of water 1 hour prior to your appointment.
